Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Additional chopped pecans (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix butter, sugar, salt, and water over medium heat until combined.
  3. Stir continuously until sugar dissolves; then cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), around 15-20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and half of the nuts.
  5. Pour onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm toffee; let melt before spreading evenly.
  7. Garnish with remaining nuts and allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
