  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Heat until warm but do not boil.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheeses over the first layer.
  5. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  6. Dot the top layer with unsalted butter and cover with foil. Bake for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
